Ali Mahdavian is an employee of Emennet Pasargad (formerly known as Eeleyanet Gostar and Net Peygard Samavat Company), an Iran-based cyber company. He participated in a coordinated campaign attempting to interfere in U.S. elections, particularly the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The campaign, starting in August 2020, included obtaining confidential U.S. voter information from at least one state election website, sending threatening emails to intimidate voters, creating and disseminating disinformation videos about purported voting vulnerabilities, attempting unauthorized access to several states' voting-related websites, and successfully breaching a U.S. media company's network. Emennet actors falsely claimed affiliation with the Proud Boys group during parts of this campaign. The U.S. government is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to Mahdavian's identification or location, or information preventing or resolving acts of foreign election interference.
